Fort Lauderdale residents who saw this summer's popcorn flick "Cowboys & Aliens" might be familiar with Olivia Wilde, who played the love interest of Daniel Craig's character in the film. She can also be seen on the hit television show "House."
Wilde, 27, recently finalized her divorce from the man she married when she was 18 and told a magazine that while the divorce was hard on her at first, it has made her a stronger and more independent person -- and that the divorce has not prevented her and her husband from remaining friends. Her message is one that should resonate with Florida newlyweds who are starting to think they are in over their heads.
Wilde, who married her husband when she was 18, said going through the process of divorce made her realize that she can rely on herself when times are tough. She also said separating from the man she had been married to her entire adult life gave her a feeling of newfound independence and freedom.
Wilde said she and her husband are still on very good terms. This is perhaps reflected in the terms of their divorce; neither is seeking spousal support from the other and they came to a private property division agreement.
Of course, not every divorce is going to go as smoothly as Wilde says hers did, because all people and all marriages are different. But in many cases, working with an attorney who is responsive to your needs and wants can go a long way towards making sure your divorce goes smoothly and is mutually satisfactory.
